Into Music Reviews: Even More New Music January 2022

Well, it’s fair to say that there is a serious glut of new music dropping at the moment and that absolutely bodes well for 2022. So, over here at Into Creative towers we continue to bring you a selection of the choicest of cuts so please read on and give the music a listen.

Artist: Blood Red Shoes
Single: Murder Me

Murder Me is the third single from Blood Red Shoes and precedes their new album Ghosts On Tape which has just been released on Velveteen Records. On production duties is Tom Dalgety (Pixies, Royal Blood).

The Brighton alt-rockers comprise of the duo of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell and they are on fine form here with a desperately bleak track dripping in dark undertones and spooky beats. The lyrics are about a serial killer’s ruinous obsessions and desires while the music plunges the depths with stark guitar and a wonderfully evocative vocal from Carter. Great stuff.

Looking at the band’s socials, I noted that they say they are “the most overlooked and underrated band of all time in the whole world ever.” No doubt tongue-in-cheek but with such strong tracks like Murder Me, it won’t be long before that statement is put to bed, forever.

Artist: Beans On Toast
Single: Humans

Sometimes in life, we just need to slow down, smell the flowers and appreciate the world we live in. Do it, you won’t regret it and will feel better for it. In fact, do it while listening to Beans On Toast and the jigsaw will fall into place, life will make sense and you’ll have a smile on your face.

New release Humans is an absolute breath of fresh air, a laid back and chilled out track delivered in the indie-folk style we have come to expect from Jay McAllister aka Beans On Toast

It reminds me a little of the JCB Song by Nizlopi and while there is a sweet innocence here, the track is underpinned by questions and observations about who we are. Will we be replaced by technology and become extinct just like the dinosaurs were before us? I sincerely hope not as we need the dreamers, the poets, the singers and the creatives like Beans On Toast to help us get through the day. The track is a beacon of light in what has been – and continues to be – a difficult time, offering hope, humanity and a touch of humour.

Humans by Beans On Toast is out now (via Beans On Toast Music label). Visit the website here for further details on new album Survival Of The Friendliest and the upcoming tour.

Artist: Mr Bruce
Single: Volatile Times

Mr Bruce is the solo project of the former lead vocalist of The Correspondents, Ian Bruce and Volatile Times is taken from the recently released five track EP Race To Nowhere on Deep Blue Records.

The single is a fast paced garage belter with techno overtones and Mr Bruce on machine gun style wordplay – impressive. Musically, there are clever overlaid rhythms, solid basslines and elements of space age funk driving the track forward.  No doubt the groove will get you first but the lyrics are also important, written for Mr Bruce’s young daughter as he tries to plot a way through the anxieties the world has, whether political, technological or environmental.

2022 is shaping up to be a big  year for Mr Bruce and with a tour scheduled, it’s sure to be a hot ticket so get one while you can. Head over to the artist’s  website here for further details.

Artist: Tears For Fears
Single: Break The Man

Having announced their first studio album in 18 years (The Tipping Point) which will be released 25th February 2022 (via Concord Records), legendary English popsters Tears For Fears have released a new track titled Break The Man as a teaser of what to expect from the new long player.

The song explodes from the start, guitars and synths setting the tone while the backbeat is just perfect pop. It’s unmistakably Tears For Fears but with a clearly modern twist. The band’s Curt Smith described the track as being “about a strong woman, and breaking the patriarchy. I feel that a lot of the problems we’ve been having as a country and even worldwide to a certain degree has come from male dominance. It’s a song about a woman who is strong enough to break the man. For me, that would be an answer to a lot of the problems in the world – a better male-female balance”.

Tears For Fears hit the road with a U.K. tour in July 2022, supported by Alison Moyet. Head over to their website here for details of the new album and tour.
