Into Music Reviews: Music Round Up August 2024

Music never fails to amaze and Into Creative are delighted to bring you another round up of what’s hotter than a ghost pepper and what’s cooler than the proverbial cucumber right now!! So read on and be sure to check out the content, bands and artists below.

Festival: The Wake Festival
Venue: Loxwood Meadow, Loxwood, Near Billinghurst

A few weeks ago, we were fortunate enough to interview Jo Bartlett (see link here) following the release of her new solo album Ghost Tapes 1-9. Jo was great company, regaling us with tales of her life in music and her involvement in a new music festival called The Wake. The festival took place on 27th July, featuring bands, artists, authors, food and drink and much more besides. By all accounts, it was an unqualified success.

Into Creative would like to extend our congratulations to Jo and all who were involved in making this new addition to the festival scene such a triumph. We are already looking forward to the 2025 edition!! For more on Jo visit her website here and for details on The Wake Festival head to the link here.

Artists: The Skids/ Spear of Destiny
Venues: Galashiels MacArts/ Dundee Church/ Edinburgh Queens Hall/ Glasgow QMU/ Aberdeen Tunnels
Dates: 04th-08th December 2024

Now, it’s one thing getting going to see The Skids but to get another bona fide headliner in Spear of Destiny on the same bill is an absolute bonus. Not only that but their extensive twenty-four date U.K. tour sees the bands head for Scotland in December, to undertake five shows across the length and breadth of the country.

Into Creative was fortunate enough to catch The Skids in January at the Rockaway Beach Festival in Bognor Regis and they’ve clearly lost none of their verve. Hailed as Scotland’s most explosive band and with good reason. Richard Jobson remains an enigmatic and charismatic front man, still working the stage, still belting out both old and new (check out their 2023 album Destination Dusseldorf) tunes, ably abetted by a solid band that includes Martin and Fin from The Filthy Tongues on guitar and bass duties.

The support act Spear of Destiny requires little introduction. Formed from the ashes of Theatre of Hate, lead singer Kirk Brandon remains one of the hardest working musicians in the industry, releasing new material and touring with this band as well as others (the aforementioned Theatre of Hate and Dead Men Walking) on a regular basis. With a back catalogue stretching from the 1980s to the present day, the choice of setlist is almost endless.

Two formidable live bands for the price of one, this is sure to be one of the gig highlights of 2024. Also great to see a U.K. tour with such an extensive number of Scottish dates. See you down the front!
