More New Music Albums November 2024

Well, we hope you enjoyed the first five albums we brought to your ears this month and given we are in such a good mood, here are another five to feast on. Also, get in touch with Into Creative and let us know what you think and feel free to suggest other new music you feel would be worth us reviewing.

Artist: Emma Anderson
Album: Spiralee (Pearlies Rearranged)
Label: Sonic Cathedral

This is a genuine joy to listen to and was a hugely welcome boost to my spirits the first time I heard it, and for that alone it gets my full praise. Music that makes you happy is rare and this really will uplift you.

It’s a wondrous collection of floating, melodies balanced with joyous, bouncy rhythms. It was a stroke of genius to have an already excellent album be reinterpreted by such a variety of differing artists. I usually find ‘remix’ albums, even of favourite works, a passing interest at best and completely unnecessary filler generally.

They usually belong to retrospective box-sets where there’s not enough material to fill 4 CD’s. However, this is an entirely different animal that goes against the grain to become something remarkably cohesive, despite the plethora of diverse artists involved. In many ways it reminds me of Screamadelica, another cohesive album using a similar approach.

Artist: Peel Dream Magazine
Album: Rose Main Reading Room
Label: Topshelf Records

Soft sunshine psych with a lovely warm and rich acoustic mix of electronics fused with propelling, jaunty beats. Fine, indie-pop songwriting with the occasional diversion into minimalist composer techniques. Think Stereolab and St Etienne meeting Steve Reich. Clever, rewarding and above all, enjoyable.

Artist: J Spaceman and John Coxon
Album: Music for William Eggleston’s Stranded in Canton
Label: Fat Possum Records

A supremely controlled musique concrete miasma of sampled voices, raggedy blues and New Orleans jazz, all held together by a contained steady beat. Echoes of The Perfect Prescription era Spacemen 3 abound which is clearly a great thing.

It’s hugely rewarding to experience J Spaceman return to and further explore this rawer sound than he has during the last 30 years of making music with Spiritualized. Coxon’s blistering and soaring guitar elevates this sonically and directly to the sun. It’s a wonderful and rare experience to feel the skill of these performers tread the tightrope of chaos and dexterity.

A perfect companion to the controlled madness of Alex Chilton’s Like Flies on Sherbet, another release which owes a debt to Eggleston.

Artist: Chrysanths
Album: Leave No Shadow
Label: Chemikal Underground

A stunningly beautiful, richly textured fusion of a sunny autumnal walk in the woods and a night in a smoky Parisian café. C’est fab! An excellent high-point of 2024. If you’re a fan of Modern Studies and/or sumptuous Chamber-pop then this might well be a highlight of your year too.

Artist: Coeur A L’index
Album: Adieu Minette
Label: La Vida Es Un Mus Discos

Another highlight of 2024. It’d be easy to simply say this sounds a bit like a French/Belgian Shop Assistants…but it does and that’s certainly not a bad thing. Excellent punky-pop, buzzy guitars, sweet melodies and attitude.
