Album Review: Paul McCartney, Egypt Station

Many people did not know what to expect upon the release of Paul McCartney’s eighteenth studio solo album, Egypt Station.

However, the former Beatle and Wings star did certainly not disappoint which resulted in him gaining his first US Billboard No.1 chart topper since 1982’s Tug of War. The album is musically adventurous and is so versatile in terms of genre, with Macca switching from Bossa Nova to Funk to Eighties Pop.

McCartney had said that he was going for the idea of a concept album but it has as much concept to it as ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.’ The album definitely needs to be listened to as a whole with some fantastic tracks such as Happy With You, Fuh You and Come On To Me.

At the age of 76, it doesn’t look as if he plans on stopping anytime soon. The musical icon has just begun his ‘Freshen Up’ tour which will bring Paul back to Scotland for the first time in eight years live. At the time of writing, there is literally only a handful of tickets available for the Hydro gig.
