Act: Miles Kane
Venue: Barrowlands
Date: 22 November 2018
After an intimate acoustic set in Fred Perry at Buchanan Galleries, the enigmatic indie rocker headed for Glasgow’s East End to perform to a sold-out audience at The Barrowlands.
Already this year I have had the pleasure of seeing Miles twice at TRNSMT and in HMV Argyle Street where I got to meet the Scouse rocker. However, tonight would be completely different as this was at the best concert venue in the world (in my opinion) where it doesn’t take long for the crowd to get going and the party to get started.
The mood of the night was set with Candi Staton’s 1976 hit ‘Young Hearts Run Free’ before the Scouser made his return to the Barrowland Ballroom for the first time in five years.
The mix of new songs from his 2018 album ‘Coup De Grace’ blended in well with usual live tracks such as Rearrange, Inhaler and Don’t Forget Who You Are to make for a fantastic concert.
Undoubtedly, living on the west coast of America has had great influence on Kane with the distinctive LA sound shining through some tracks from the new album which were making their live debut.
The past few years have been exceptionally busy for Kane who again hooked up with Arctic Monkeys front-man Alex Turner in 2015 to reform The Last Shadow Puppets and release ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’ which made it to number one in the UK charts. However, as a solo artist Miles is certainly back doing what he does best which was seen during his vibrant cover of Donna Summer’s ‘Hot Stuff’ before he closed with ‘Come Closer’ to send the crowd home buzzing after a scintillating performance.
