Into Music Reviews – The Twang, O2 Academy, Glasgow

Who? The Twang

Where? 02 Academy Glasgow
When? 30 November 2019

Glasgow in late November can be a cold, cold place, but last night The 02 Academy in Glasgow was one of the hottest tickets in town. The evergreen ‘90s indie band Shed Seven were playing their second of two Glasgow gigs in their ‘Shedcember’ tour and supporting them were the noughties indie combo The Twang.

The venue was rapidly filling up for the headliners and there were plenty of fans happy to offer The Twang a warm and friendly welcome as they took to the stage just before 8pm.

The Birmingham-based outfit started strong with a couple of offerings from their earlier albums to get into the groove for the evening. They moved on to a number from their newest album, If Confronted Just Go Mad, which allowed one of the female backing singers to share vocals with the lead singer to great effect.

Next up was arguably the band’s biggest hit, Either Way which rose to number 8 in the charts in 2007. This sparked a great response from the crowd and the band seemed to crank things up a gear from this point on as they played through the second half of their set.

The band kept the crowd moving with a handful of energetic songs and main man Phil thanked the fans for their singing and dancing, as well as wishing all and sundry a ‘Happy St Andrews’.

The final tune of the night was the anthemic Took the Fun, which saw a triumphant sing along, leaving Twang’s fans very happy and the whole crowd suitably warmed up for the headline act.
