Into Music Reviews: Yet Even More New Music January 2022

Last time out, Into Creative noted the glut of new music arriving in the first month of 2022 and quite frankly, we thought that would be it, the well was probably dry. How wrong we were, it’s still positively flowing and we continue to drink from the source and bring that to you here. So fill up your glasses of brandy and wine (other options are available), sit back, read on and listen to the tunes.

Artist: Vulture Party
Single: Iso Disco

You have to feel a little for Vulture Party as just as they released their self titled debut album in 2020, the Covid pandemic landed at precisely the same time. Cue cancelled album launch party and any plans for live gigs. On the plus side, the album was a cracker and the band are back with new single Iso Disco which is being released ahead of their hotly anticipated new album (Archipelago) later in 2022 on the Last Night From Glasgow label.

The track is a bit of a departure from the previous album and sees the band evolve their sound and explore new musical vistas. Think minimalistic synth disco beats associated with certain Sheffield bands of the early 1980s but with a modern kick. The song was conceived during lockdown and the lyrics touch on human contact and relationships.

Artist: Hate Moss
Single: Fog

Formed in London, the Italian-Brazilian duo of Tina (electronics) and Ian (drums) have been making music together since 2018. Fog is a dark dance track dripping in bass beats and meshes post-punk and industrial electronica.

At times hypnotic, it provides the listener with a sense of sonic paranoia and involuntary feelings of detachment which gives it a powerful vibe and is the type of track played by the cool DJs in the coolest underground clubs.

With a new album due out later in 2022, the year is shaping up well for Hate Moss. Keep up to date via their website here and their Bandcamp page here

Artist: Gilmore Trail
Single: Nocturne

The Sheffield instrumentalists are back with their first new music in six years.

Nocturne starts with the sound of a breaking storm and rainfall before the music gently fades in. Showcasing the band’s talents, nuanced and clever guitar sounds dominate with plenty of space to allow the music to shine through.

No doubt about it, this track is suited for late at night moments of solitude and reflection and will ease the burdens of the day, it’s a passage of tranquility that shimmers and breathes and will boost your wellbeing and find you looking to explore what else the band have to offer.

Speaking of which, new album Impermanence is also out now on Chasmata Records and finds the four piece on fine form across the seven tracks on offer. No surprise the band are lauded by the likes of Steve Lamacq and Tom Robinson.

Artist: Betty Boo
Single: Get Me To The Weekend

Some things are worth waiting for, they just are. Actually hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Betty Boo last released a solo record but fear not, she’s back with a cracking tune in Get Me To The Weekend.

The lead track from a forthcoming new album due this year sees Betty Boo provide 3 minutes of poptastic tuneage as the singer looks forward to the weekend and the chance to go crazy and have fun – something I think we can all associate with!

Insanely infectious, the vocal is typical of the songstress while the music samples Love Action by Human League which all adds up to the perfect earworm, lovely stuff.

Artist: PENGSHUi
Album: Destroy Yourself

PENGSHUi mix elements of punk, grime, rap, drum ‘n’ bass and an absolute ‘no fucks given’ attitude which, when mixed together, results in a heady brew of exciting, caustic music that bursts through the speakers as if the band were playing live in your front room.

The new album Destroy Yourself positively explodes with track after track hitting the spot, not bad for a three piece! There’s lots going on with the vocal content squared on a variety of topics including politics, social observations and mental health.

The album is out on MVKA Records and includes highlights such as Break The Law, Eat The Rich (railing against Jacob Rees-Mogg’s views on the Grenfell flats residents), I’m Sick and Nothing Ever Changes. There’s hints of The Prodigy and Rage Against The Machine but make no mistake, PENGSHUi are their own band making their own music on their own terms.

PENGSHUi are touring in February and you can visit their Bandcamp page here for more details on the tour and their music.
